Windows Copying and pasting Folders and Files to a USB Memory Stick or External Drive

Copying folders and files to a USB memory stick or external hard drive allows you to have extra copies of the items you have copied, and makes it easy to transport those items from computer to computer. One example is the report you write at work or school, copy to your USB memory stick, and then open that same report at home to do further work on the document. Cloud based storage is replacing some of the need to have documents transported on USB memory sticks and other devices, but there may be some items you do not want stored online. Another example of copying folders and files on a USB memory stick is the NLS BARD talking book website. You can download a book, extract or unzip the folder of that book onto a USB memory stick, and then play that book in the NLS Digital talking book player. Generally, when you download an NLS BARD talking book it is saved to your "Downloads" folder. When you save a document it is generally saved in the "Documents" "My Documents" area of the "Libraries" in Windows File Explorer. The following activities assume that you know how to create folders in specific drives, save files to those folders, zip and un zip those folders. This web page has headings for easier access. The letter h will take you forward through the headings, and Shift h will take you backwards through the headings. When you are finished move to the link at the bottom of this page titled "BACK" to go to the "Simple Windows Lessons" web page.
